📚 Subtraction Theory
What is subtraction?
Subtraction is a mathematical operation that shows how much one number is less than another or how much remains after removing a part from a whole.
Example: 15 - 7 = 8
This means that if we have 15 objects and we remove 7, then 8 objects remain.
Column subtraction algorithm
- Write the numbers one under the other, aligned by digits
- Start subtraction from right to left (from ones)
- If the digit of the minuend is less than the digit of the subtrahend, borrow from the higher digit
- Continue to the leftmost digit

Special cases
Subtraction with borrowing
When the digit in the minuend is less than the digit in the subtrahend, you need to borrow 1 from the higher digit.
52 - 7 = 45 (borrow 1 from tens)
Subtracting zero
When subtracting zero, the number does not change.
25 - 0 = 25
Subtracting from zero
From zero, you can only subtract zero, the result will be zero.
0 - 0 = 0
