VIC’S SCIENCE STUDIO: chemistry lab in virtual reality
About the laboratory
From handling acids and bases to experimenting with salts, this VR simulation enables students to plan, execute, and analyze their experiments independently. Whether conducting qualitative or quantitative analysis, VR Chemistry Lab ensures a deep, engaging learning experience that takes chemistry education to the next level.
VR Chemistry Lab is a chemical laboratory in virtual reality, allowing you to perform experiments that students cannot conduct in a real laboratory due to safety reasons, material restrictions, or the need to conduct classes remotely.
Using VR technologies allows you to transfer the user to a virtual laboratory that is as close to a real one as possible. Virtual hands are used for work (controllers are used), which can be freely moved in three-dimensional space.
Thanks to a specially developed chemical-physical model, it was possible to simulate the reactions as realistically as possible, thereby increasing the reliability of the results to an almost real level.
The freedom of action provided by the chemical-physical model and VR equipment increases the awareness of actions and the involvement of students in the work. Unlike "flat" virtual chemistry laboratories, where all interactions are carried out using a mouse or touch screen, the use of VR ensures full immersion of the user in the problem being solved and reduces the influence of distracting factors.
Students make their own decisions when planning and conducting experiments, solving search tasks, conducting not only qualitative but also quantitative experiments.
Personal accounts of teachers and system administrators, accessible via the web interface, allow you to create and assign tasks, view statistics on their execution, and manage available licenses.
An extensive knowledge base will help the teacher choose suitable tasks and prepare for the lesson. In addition to the description of tasks, the database includes extensive methodological material: a program of additional classes using VR technologies, videos with methodological recommendations, as well as
presentations and handouts for classes. There are also instructions on working with virtual reality helmets, setting them up and installing software on them.
The software is regularly updated, new tasks appear and the available functionality is expanded. Major updates are released during the summer holidays so that the teacher has time to install them and get acquainted with the new functionality.
Currently, the user has access to more than 100 ready-made tasks that cover the main topics of general and inorganic chemistry. VR Chemistry Lab is suitable for updating (repeating) and acquiring new knowledge for both high school students and students of secondary vocational education and universities.
